How to Prepare for Pregnancy?

Before conceiving a child, it is important to know the proper age for child bearing, to be mentally ready for parenthood and to have a healthy reproductive system.
For ideal conception, it is important that the woman and her womb be in good health, the availability of nutrition for development of the foetus be optimum and healthy.
Preparations for pregnancy to be undertaken ensures good physical health care which is essential for a perfectly healthy child.
Obesity, diabetes, High BP, Low hemoglobin levels, Thalassemia, BMI (Body mass index), Thyroid and other related issues have adverse affect for ideal conception.

It is advisable to visit the doctor before you conceive and even after missing the period date. Mostly, doctors prescribe some pre-pregnancy medicines like folic acid which is good for both mother and the baby.

The unborn child is proposed to carry its past actions, but it receives its physical nourishment from the mother and its mind is attached to her. The mother’s behavior, thoughts, feelings, activities, verbal expressions and diet have a deep impact on the child.

Listening to the music during Pregnancy
A baby’s mind is deeply attached to its parents. It can even listen the music and stories, the mother listens to when she is pregnant. It all helps in developing the mind of the child. So, it is wise to listen to good stories and music which leaves good impressions on the child’s mind. If a woman wants a child to be full of intelligence, beautiful, courage and healthy, she should listen to the stories of people who possess such qualities.
In the Mahabharata, Abhimanyu learned the art of breaking chakravyuha when he was still in his mother’s womb, as Shri Krishna explained the process to her. So, all this can have a positive effect on the health of the child and its personality.

Partner’s role in pregnancy
Obviously, all the nourishment goes to the child through mother but her husband too plays a vital role. There are so many changes taking place in the woman’s body, so the husband has to pay extra care to her needs. They need to spend enough time with each other and have to create a deep bond and trust. This trust helps the woman to freely explain her cravings to the partner.
In India, we always talk of an ideal relationship between husband and wife is Shri Rama and Sita. During pregnancy all cravings that Sita had were taken care by Shri Rama. It is said that if these wishes were not fulfilled correctly, the child that is born may not be completely healthy. These desires come from the child and not from the mother. Mother is the only medium to put across the desires of the child she carries.

Maintain Correct weight
It is very important to keep right body weight before and even over a period of time. Our body becomes more efficient during gestation and absorbs more nutrients we eat. The concept of eating for two no longer exists. It is advisable to take normal walk of 30 minutes daily as an exercise. Include yoga like Legs up the wall, Butterfly, Open-leg and forward bend, Hip circles.

Fluid Intake
The most important is to stay hydrated. Drink 10-12 glasses of water in a day. Enough fluid intake can help to fight some common problems like constipation, hemorrhoids and bladder infections. Drinking enough water is even the solution to your swollen feet and ankles.

Foods during Pregnancy
Home cooked food is always better. Whatever is made at home is best for you and the baby. Take high protein diet like eggs, pulses, wheat, brown rice, almonds and vegetables. Include fruits in your diet but say no to papaya and pineapple. Avoid junk food specially Chinese as it contains ajinomoto which is harmful.
  •       Eat nourishing food.
  •        Eat meals at regular times.
  •     Reduce the intake of extremely sour, spicy, salty, deep fried and  fermented foods.
  •    Cut down the intake of fast food, alcohol, smoking, coffee and   aerated drinks.

Take proper rest and sleep
Adequate sleep is surely an important aspect. It is advisable for the pregnant woman to sleep on her left side and bend her knees a little bit. This position put least pressure on the womb and is comfortable for the baby inside as well.
